Official Counter: David Brown
Observers: Kim Steininger, Phil Rushworth, Shelly Rackovsky, Steve Taylor, Zhen Lu
Visitors: 15
Weather: Clear skies in the morning with a thin layer of clouds moving in throughout the day. The wind started west then shifted to the north. Moved to Frisbee Hill around 12:30pm EST.
Raptor Observations: First big Broad-winged Hawk day of the season but mostly distant views.
A moderate raptor flight for the first few hours with small groups of Turkey Vultures and Broad-winged Hawks migrating by on the parkway-side. Eventually the flight line shifted out of sight and we moved to Frisbee Hill. We had a steady flow of broad-wings with kettles as large as 150, but most were scope distance farther inland. Low numbers of other expected migrants.
Predictions: TOMORROW: Periods of rain. High 52F. Winds E at 10-20mph. Unfavorable winds and rain will probably end the count early. Expect light migration.
THURSDAY: Rain showers early then overcast. High 59F. Winds W at 10-15mph. A decent wind but rain showers may hold back the flight. A day to keep an eye on.
FRIDAY: Steady light rain in the morning with showers in the afternoon. High 61F. Winds SSW at 10-20mph. Good winds but rain and gloom may hold back the flight. Will keep an eye on it. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown (<davidebrownpa...>) Braddock Bay information may be found at: http://www.bbrr.org/
