Date: 4/29/24 1:06 pm From: Edge Wade <1edgewade...> Subject: Re: Two Brown Thrasher nests
One of my favorite birding stories involves Brown Thrasher nest building.
I was a very, very new birder. My neighbor, Fred, an elder in a Columbia
church, was a member of the Columbia Audubon Society, so when I saw BRTHs
nest building I invited him over to watch from my deck.
As we looked on together, I was perplexed and blurted out, "But there are
THREE of them!"
Fred hemmed, hawed, and cleared his throat before replying, "They're not
monogamous, you know."
"Oh," was all I could respond. We watched in silence, fascinated at the
cooperative effort.
