A wet weekend in Barry County had us dodging raindrops to do any birding. Margie & I cancelled our Friday trip, but spent Saturday and Sunday birding with my brother Dave Williams and Nancy Leo, both Kansas City area birders. Saturday we spotted our first Green Heron of the year and saw a pair of Blue Grosbeaks. Our seventeen warbler list included 21 Hooded Warblers, 6 Cerulian, 5 Worm-eating, Blue-wing, Tennessee, Nashville, Northern Parula, American Redstart, Yellow-throated, Louisiana Waterthrush, Prairie, Ovenbird, Yellow-rumped, Pine, Black & White, Kentucky, and Common Yellowthroat.

Sunday we added Northern Waterthrush and Margie was able to hear the calls of Wilson's and Black-throated Green Warblers, getting her to 20 warblers for the day. We also saw our first of the year Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Cliff Swallows, and Dickcissel.

Washburn Wetland continues to be slow, but the small wetland next to the Barry County Museum in Cassville yielded Solitary Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Lesser Yellowlegs, Common Snipe, and Killdeer.

The two Great Horned Owlets are growing and the white down feathers have changed to light brown. No adults were seen.

Fire pink and Squaw weed are starting to bloom. Columbine and the dark purple Larkspur were beautiful.
