Despite very chilly temperatures (35 degrees) early this morning, I was able to hear an American Bittern calling from the Vischer Ferry main entrance lot. Later I heard at least one other one west on the towpath. In the marsh area closer to the river I heard a Virginia Rail. Other good birds mostly along the path to the river included: 2 Northern Waterthrush, Marsh Wren, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and a Palm Warbler.
