My Early drive from Boone Co. to Saylorville Lake was fairly slow for birds seen, given cold temp & strong winds. Things picked up towards noon, letting me get 7 new FOY species. Not all are listed here, but some good FOYs included a *Warbling Vireo* at Jester Park & the regular *Fish Crow *at Saylorville's Sandpiper Beach.
Then, almost arriving home near 3 PM, I spotted a bunch of shorebirds in a small patch of flooded crop field 3 mi. south of Ogden, east of Hwy. 169. I had to pull onto a nearby gravel road & use a scope to search at some distance south in bad light. Tough to view, but there were 8 FOY *Short-billed Dowitchers*, about 6 FOY *Least Sandpipers*, 2 *Pectorals*, & a couple of other small ones impossible to ID at the distance. So, this all ended as my 2nd best birding day of the year so far.
