Looking at the breeding season table from the Atlas 2000, mourning dove are listed as having eggs as early as March 9 and as late as September 28. So mid April is not really very early for them to have eggs.

Subject: [GeneseeBirds-L] Early Nesting Activity
You don't often get email from <a.consler330...><mailto:<a.consler330...> . Learn why this is important<https://aka.ms/LearnAboutSenderIdentification>
ATTENTION: This email came from an external source. Do not open attachments or click on links from unknown senders or unexpected emails.
With how warm this past "winter" was, I cannot say I am surprised that nesting and migration seems to have an early start this year. For example, I had encountered Yellow-rumped Warblers in the middle of January around the village of Mt. Morris and the Letchworth SP Dam.
Recently however, a relative of mine passed along a picture of a Mourning Dove nesting on her porch with an egg already laid. It got me thinking, I wonder if this is rather early for a dove to be laying eggs. I will be the first to confess how limited my knowledge of this is. Has anyone else been seeing signs of nesting activity earlier than some colder years?
Cheers,
Andrew Consler
