Date: 6/3/26 7:01 pm From: Kevin Krajcir <kjkrajcir...> Subject: ASCA June Presentation - Bird Banding at LRAC and Training
Good evening!
Join the Audubon Society of Central Arkansas on Thursday June 11th at 7 PM
to hear Ari Remmel and Uta Meyer speak about spring bird banding efforts
and training that they have been participating in these past few months.
Since 2024, the Little Rock Audubon Center (LRAC) has been banding birds on
site as part of various research projects, including spring and fall
migration monitoring and training. These projects have been conducted in
partnership with collaborators from the Arkansas Natural Heritage
Commission, Hendrix College, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, the
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and community volunteers. At the time, Ari
Remmel and Uta Meyer were new to bird banding but have developed these
skills over the past two years. They both continued their bander’s
education by attending a beginner banding course at Braddock Bay Bird
Observatory near Rochester, NY in May 2026. Ari and Uta will speak about
the results of the spring migration banding season at the LRAC and their
trip to Braddock Bay Bird Observatory.
Ari Remmel is a science journalist and audio producer based in Little Rock,
Arkansas. They started their career as a chemist before launching into
science reporting. They are currently the managing producer for BirdNote
Daily. Ari has previously published work with Science, Nature, Audubon, and
Catapult among others. When Ari is not at their desk, you can find them
volunteering with the National Association of Science Writers, the Arkansas
Master Naturalists, and local birding clubs.
Uta Meyer is the Center Manager for the Little Rock Audubon Center, an
office of Audubon Delta, where she has worked since 2013. Uta earned a
bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Central
Arkansas and a master’s in Conservation Education from New York University.
She also serves as the Zoom guru for the monthly ASCA meetings!
