There were really nice numbers of waterfowl today on Shenango Lake.

At the Shenango Wildlife Area Propagation Ponds:

There were over 238 Pintails! The most I've ever seen at one time. 10
Tundra Swans, 76 American Wigeons, 42 Gadwall, 15 Green-winged Teal, etc.
The ponds are open with not much ice.

At Mercer Rec. on East Lake Road:

HUGE NUMBERS! 38 Tundras, 39 Gadwall, 42 Wigeons, 43 Mallards, 86 Pintails,
118 Canvasbacks, 73 Redheads, 152 Ring-necked Ducks, 350 Common Mergansers,
2 Horned & 3 Pied-billed Grebes, etc. There were sooo many more to count,
but I got too cold!

Golden Run has a lot of open shoreline since the water is down, so the best
place to view this large expanse of open water is from Mercer Rec.

Chestnut Run is still pretty frozen.

Happy birding,
