First we joined the group of birders on Turri Rd. , and then we drove over LOVR where Roger got on the bird fairly quickly and helped me get on the bird. We got good views of the bird as it flew in front of us flying to the east heading over Turri Rd and beyond Turri Ranch, before it disappeared into the distance heading towards SLO. It had dark plumage with a black cap, white neck and tail, along with rounded white wingtips. After it flew out of sight we drove back over to the group parked on Turri and they all had reported the same observation. We all then headed towards Foothill Road to try and relocate it but were unsuccessful."

Crested Caracara (Caracara plancus) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Feb 24, 2026 10:51 by Carol Comeau
- Turri Road, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.7948498&<ll...>,-120.7948498 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S303568806 - Media: 3 Photos
- Comments: "Found by Ron Beck. When I arrived the bird was perched on a rock on the east side of Turri Road about 1 mile from the Turri Road/Los Osos Valley Road junction. A local mentioned he had seen the bird previously, so it has probably been in the area a couple of days. The bird flew to the SE and soared for awhile before perching in a field close to LOVR. Petra Clayton reported a Crested Caracara at the Turri Road Hotspot on July 20, 2013. Photo."
Crested Caracara (Caracara plancus) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Feb 24, 2026 10:00 by Ronald Beck
- Turri Road, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.7948498&<ll...>,-120.7948498 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S303591859 - Media: 3 Photos
- Comments: "As I was watching a pair of Bald Eagles on a rock outcrop at the crest of Turri Road, when a local resident named Steve, approached me and said he had seen an odd bird, that he did not recognize, he told me the bird was walking out in the field further East along Turri Road, I told him I was heading that way, and I would check it out. As I traveled towards Los Osos Valley Road, there was a Crested Caracara sitting on top of a rocky outcrop on the East side of the road, I quickly took a couple of documentation photographs. Bird was seen at 10:25am, and photographed shortly after."
