Subject: [sd-birds] Sanborn county
I went out to fill all my feeders because they were all empty because it's
been so cold. As I was filling them. I looked out towards one of my
birdhouses and I saw something perched on top. I thought it's probably a
woodpecker so I went closer and I saw it fly down to some weeds and I saw
it flick its tail. I knew it couldn't be a woodpecker. I walked around some
more and I saw it fly up into a dead tree and it was a northern shrike. I
wonder how they get enough to eat in this cold weather. Hopefully he takes
one of my house. Sparrows.

Otherwise I have nothing to report. I mean nothing. I guess I did see a
red-tailed hawk coming back from Mitchell the other day.

Everyone locally has red breasted nuthatches but I do not.

I do have a flicker hitting the feeders.

And still have a lone white crowned sparrow first year.
