Speaking of owls – A Snowy Owl was seen (and videoed) on Sunday January 11th on the top of Royal Mountain ski slope (sitting on a snow cannon) and then flying away to an unknown destination/direction. Royal Mountain is in the Town of Caroga Lake, just northwest of Johnstown.
Not the best habitat for them there, so maybe keep an eye out south toward Johnstown and the Mohawk Valley.
Sorry for the late notice.

Hi,
This species breeds and overwinters locally in our region, but is by no means common. In the winter they can form large communal roosts of multiple individuals. Some may recall the eight birds roosting together in the Fort Edward grasslands back in 2019.

On my way to work this morning I found a Long Eared Owl deceased at Grafton. I'm not really familiar with the species and don't know if it is a common species in this area. I would prefer to not share the photo as it is a deceased animal.
Does anyone have any more information on the species in NYS?
