Subject: [hmbirds] Outreach Corner Update 2 Events This Weekend
Hey everyone, with all the hoopla and excitement around the recent Taiga Bean Goose sighting, I’m a little behind on this Outreach Corner update and appreciate your patience. That said, the Hudson Mohawk Bird Club is officially on the books for two events this weekend if you’re looking for something fun to do and a good excuse not to let another gray, dreary January weekend slip by. If you’ve been itching to get outside, talk birds, and maybe even make plans for lunch or dinner afterward, here’s what’s coming up.

1. *Winterfest at Grafton Lakes State Park is this Saturday, January 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.* There will be hikes, food trucks, a polar plunge kicking off at 11:30, and plenty of winter energy in the air, with no registration required. HMBC will be tabling at the event, likely indoors, and the vibe will be similar to the Thacher Park Hawk Watch, just with winter flair. There may even be a bird walk or two if conditions allow. We have a few volunteers lined up already, with Club President Kevin McGrath leading the charge. If you have questions specific to the venue or event logistics, the number posted by Grafton Lakes is 518-279-1155. If you’re interested in stopping by or helping out at the HMBC table, just reply to me and I’ll loop you in with Kevin. It’s an easy, fun way to smile, talk birds, and share what the club is all about with the public.

2.    We’re also signed up in advance for the *Schenectady Greenmarket on Sunday, January 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m*. This one is a relaxed, easy four hours, and even coming by for an hour or two makes a big difference, especially later in the afternoon. Right now this is the lighter-covered of the two events, so if you’ve been meaning to help out, this is a great opportunity. It’s also a nice way to shop local, enjoy the Schenectady market scene, and maybe grab a bite to eat or go birding afterward.

If you have any interest in either event or just want to stop by and say hello, feel free to reply directly to me with questions or availability. Happy winter and happy birding — see you out there.

Best,
David Massa
