This afternoon I birded Laguna Blanca in Hope Ranch. I went specifically to count Buffleheads as I recently saw a good number on the lake. I counted 114, though I believe this was on the low side as many of the birds were diving as I scanned. In BOSBC Paul states "the population in winter along the South Coast does not normally exceed 125 individuals" -- so, this is a good winter for them, at least locally.
Other ducks of interest: Redhead (2), Common Goldeneye (1st winter male), Blue-winged Teal (female).
