Alum Creek Beach & South Shore
Things were hopping at Alum Creek beach today. A nice assortmentof waterfowl topped by the presence of a Long-tailed Duck. The American WhitePelican is also still there. Ducks close in due to the icing of the reservoirincluded:
Mallard, American Black Duck, Northern Pintail, LesserScaup, Greater Scaup, Canvasback, Redhead, Ring-necked Duck, Bufflehead, RuddyDuck, Common Goldeneye and Hooded Merganser. I heard that others had seen swans "flyover" and they saw, I didn’t, Surf Scoter, Common Merganser and Horned Grebe.
Save walking from the beach parking lot or the lot off LewisCenter Road by parking at the Alum Creek Visitor Center and walking down thehill from there. It will put you right in line with the waterfowl activity.Happy 2006 birding.
