This morning we had a forecast of onshore south winds, for basically the only time during this weather event, so I thought it might be an interesting time to go do a seawatch in case anything got pushed close to shore by the wind and storm.
Visibility was pretty bad for much of my time but I had a couple Parasitic Jaegers and near-shore Red Phalaropes, which was fun. I also had a handful of Forster's Terns, Bonaparte's Gulls, and a few hundred Surf Scoters (I tried unsuccessfully to pull out any other scoter species). There were several Pacific Loons travelling east, which I think are uncommon to see migrating from land on the South Coast in fall, so I wondered if those might have been pushed in by the weather too.
On the way, I stopped by Devereux this morning and scanned the ducks, which included two Common Goldeneyes. The tide was high early this morning and now that the estuary berm has burst, the area where I saw the goldeneyes swimming in the morning was a mudflat a few hours later on my return.
