- Comments: "We arrived at Mallard Cove and expected to see nothing more as we glanced through the coots and the mallards. Then as we started heading to the northwest the Swan came out of the north flew right over our heads circled for a minute and then headed off to the north again. Oh my gosh, we were so stunned at it that we almost did not make pictures. It was an amazing experience wow! What a beautiful bird pictures to follow."

This was a fairly pale medium size alcid. It's most prominent feature in flight was its messy, mostly white wing coverts. - Comments: "Continuing juveniles. One was perched on a row boat by the long dock, the other up in the smaller Monterey Cypress, closest to the last boat ramp.
We have been observing this species since early September. We observed one juvenile at this location in the morning of 9/6/25 and again on 9/7/25, 9/8/25, 9/12/25 and 9/18/25. We observed three juveniles on 9/25/25 and 9/26/25. On 10/2/25 we observed two juveniles. On 10/7/25 and 10/8/25 we observed a single juvenile here. On 10/13/25 and 10/14/25 we again observed two individuals. On 10/23/25 we saw just a single one and on 10/24/25 again two.
One juvenile was first present here on 9/4/25 and could have been the same individual reported on 9/3/25 at the Morro Bay SP Marina.
Today's juveniles had a dark, stout bill with yellow feathers at the base of the lower mandible; small white triangular spots on the covert feathers.
Click on the image below for a Flickr video showing both juveniles. First the one on the row boat by the long dock. Then the second one up in the smaller Monterey Cypress, closest to the last boat ramp:

- Comments: "Continuing lady bird with an All-Hallow’s Eve black-and-white pattern. She was stalking roly polys while crawling on tree trunks like a xenomorph baby. Vocalized high-pitched chip calls that my universal device translated to “I’m coming to get you—you can’t hide, little many-footed tasty things . . .” In trees between north and south paths just west of where the paths converge: 35.26764° N, 120.66034° W Monster bird photo was taken of it with a roly poly victim . . ."
