Walked the road between the two bridges this morning. Not a lot of activity but it was pleasant birding/walking. Best bird was a (probably returning) Pacific Wren, found where one has been regularly seen for the past couple of years (a few 100 feet upstream from the brown house with the bridge over the creek).
The approximate GPS location is: 34.50584,-119.81863. A large oak came down on the opposite side of the creek a couple of years ago. Though the trunk and large limbs were removed, several dead limbs hang over the top of the creek bank, making quite a tangle of lichen-covered twigs and branches. The Wren originally flew up from downstream into this tangle; then spent quite a bit of time in it, leaving and returning more than once. In the same vicinity were a Canyon Wren and a Bewick's wren.
Other birds I found were more or less common Canyon birds for this time of year. I was hoping for Varied Thrush but did not see one. However, I did hear a thrush-like call in the tanbark oaks on the uphill side of the road that I couldn't identify. Checking various on-line sources after I got home, I found at least one call that matched what I heard to Varied Thrush.
