Subject: [RV Birds] Medford Raptor Run
First run of the season was conducted by Bob Hunter, Janet Kelly, Jeff
Miller and Anne Goff on Saturday, November 8. We started off with a bit of
fog, but ended up a warm(ish) sunny day. Had lots of good luck with the
return of the Ferruginous Hawk on Ramsey Road (right near the intersection
of 234), the reappearance of the Burrowing Owl on Brophy Road, and a lovely
unusual looking partially leucistic Red-tailed Hawk on Agate, about a mile
south of Mountain View Road (we think we saw the same bird last year and
were briefly tricked into believing it was a Rough-legged Hawk!) Final
numbers were:

Red-tailed Hawk: 51
American Kestrel: 60 (More than the Red-tails...unusual for us)
Northern Harrier: 4
Bald Eagle: 2 adults
Golden Eagle: 2
Red-Shouldered Hawk: 4
Ferruginous Hawk: 1
Peregrine Falcon: 1 (as usual on Campbell Road)
Prairie Falcon: 2
Merlin: 2
Cooper's Hawk: 5
Barn Owl: 1
Burrowing Owl: 1

Happy birding.
Anne
