Subject: [sbcobirding] recent birds
All,

Yesterday at Ocean Park I saw 2 Ross's and a Snow Goose. They appeared not to stay. Also a juv SB Dowitcher and a Red Phalarope. Still quite a few shorebirds (e.g. 60 Western Sandpipers). Most diving ducks have not arrived yet. I checked the feedlot by the entrance road in good light conditions with a large flock present but failed to see the grackle. Probably could only check about half the birds well.

The retention basin at Olive and O street is finally good again after a lost decade. There were 13 Canvasback there and over 30 RN Ducks. The ebird hotspot for this location is called Miguelito Pond.

Today I checked the area offshore of Gaviota and Canada San Onofre. Lots of Common Loons are back but only single RT and Pacific Loons. I had at least one RN Grebe and 25-30 each of Western and Eared. No Horneds.
