We birded today showing guest birders area hotspots, but the sightings and number of species poor. Bear Butte Lake had absolutely no waterbirds, Nisland slough was the same, and BF Reservoir had only Ring-billed Gulls and DC Cormorants. The large number of water birds near the reservoir inlet seen two weeks ago was gone. Raptor sightings today were limited to 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 2 Kestrels, and 2 Bald Eagles. Two Lewis's Woodpeckers were found on Eden Road. Other sightings included scores of migrating Robins, a few Vesper Sparrows, Townsend's Solitaire, Horned Larks and a few Mallard-Gadwall-Redhead, and American Wigeon Ducks on small ponds. Large flocks of European Starlings were everywhere and the most abundant species.
Sightings at our home 1.5 miles south of Whtiewood since last report include one flock of about 50 Sandhill Cranes on 10/21, a White-throated Sparrow, more Dark-eyed Junco's at the feeders plus a Bald Eagle along with Crows and Magpies on a deer carcass south of our house.
