Date: 10/28/25 12:43 am From: Tom Fiore <tomfi2...> Subject: [nysbirds-l] N.Y. County, NYC - Monday, 10/27 - Snow Buntings, Black Scoters, Clay-c. Sparrow, etc.
New York County -in N.Y. City- including Manhattan, Randalls Island, Governors Island, Roosevelt Island, and the adjacent waters and skies above - thru Monday, October 27th -
Monday brought some very-uncommon species -uncommon for this county, not so for the region- including 3 Snow Buntings -photographed, N. Souirigi-, to Randalls Island. On the northwest side of Manhattan, a watch for migration produced among other multiple species a flock of Black Scoters on the Hudson River, seen off the western terminus of Dyckman Street, along with a multitude of other migrants in motion. An Eastern Bluebird was noted and photod at Governors Island on Monday, after at least several have passed in Manhattan including at Central Park in recent days. American Pipits have continued to appear in some locations of the county.
Central Park had at least these 15 warbler species ongoing into Monday, 10-27 -
Ovenbirds
Northern Waterthrush - still lingering and photographed by multiple observers on Monday at The Pool in the parks n-w sector.
Black-and-white Warblers
Nashville Warbler -at least 4 of this species still around, with two together in The Pinetum area on Monday.
Common Yellowthroats
American Redstart - a bit late for late October.
Cape May Warblers
Northern Parulas
Magnolia Warbler - this is late-ish but not even close to any record-late dates for the specific park, Central has far-later-record dates, to December for Magnolia over the years.
Yellow Warbler - continuing in the n. end of the park
Black-throated Blue Warblers - multiple.
Palm Warblers - of both typical forms for the fall season
Pine Warblers - in multiple locations in Central Park
Yellow-rumped -Myrtle- Warblers - still showing as morning-flight movers into Monday and a number also lingering.
Black-throated Green Warblers - in the multiple.
A total of fifteen warbler species still hanging-in for Central on Monday, these seen in the collective by observers and photographers on not-for-profit guided bird walks and by independent walkers with their cameras and-or binoculars. Zero of the noted warbler species are close to record-late dates for either that park or for Manhattan or the county - and many are not-yet excessively-late, just -mostly- past almost any peak-migration dates. For example there are -scarce!- late-dates in December for Yellow Warbler at Central Park, in past years. Multiple other parks, greenspaces, gardens, church yards, and other locations in the county have also been producing a mix of warblers still passing thru or lingering a little longer, and plenty of other migrants.
At Union Square Park in lower Manhattan, a Blackpoll Warbler as well as Black-throated Blue Warbler were found on Monday, and a Northern Waterthrush has been lingering there recently - photos of these in eBird and the Macaulay Library - A. Deutsch, et al.
A Clay-colored Sparrow was continuing to be reported from the Gansevoort peninsula pier-park on the Hudson River greenway in lower-west Manhattan, along with a variety of other migrant-visitant species there. Roosevelt Island has continued to produce some sightings of migrant birds.
Many more migrants and the start of some winter-bird visitors have been showing in all of the county into Monday. Indigo Bunting was still present at Central Park into this past weekend, with multiple not-for-profit guided bird walks plus independent observers as well noting the species. Some species seen recently are not noted here for their sensitivity.
Thanks to the many keen, quiet, courteous observers and photographers all using non-x apps for alerts and reports, including in eBird with the Macaulay Library for media archives with both visual and auditory formats, for many finds, re-finds, reports and alerts.
Good birding,
Tom Fiore
