Weather: Blue skies except for a few midday clouds. Light to moderate northeast winds. A tad chilly when the wind picked up.
Raptor Observations: Another excellent flight, though migration was high altitude and spotting was very difficult with few clouds so many migrants were probably missed. An excellent flight of Turkey Vultures with 250 migrating including a group of 100+ that streamed directly overhead which is the largest single group I ever remember here. Steady Bald Eagle activity with 13 migrating. Three harriers including one which gave a nice look as it hunted low nearby. A moderate Accip flight with 26 sharpies and 21 Coops. Good Buteo numbers with 40 Red-shouldered Hawks and 15 red-tails. A few kestrels and Merlins.
Non-raptor Observations: 2 Common Loons, 2 Common Ravens, 25 Purple Finches, 8 Yellow-rumped Warblers, no monarchs. https://ebird.org/checklist/S281693603
Predictions: Tomorrow: A mix of sun and clouds then cloudy. High 58F. Winds NE at 10-20mph. Expect moderate to good migration.
Wednesday: Cloudy. High 56F. Winds NE at 10-20mph. Expect moderate migration.
Thursday: Rain likely. Potential for heavy rainfall. High 64F. Winds SE at 10-20mph. Chance of rain 100%. 1-2 inches of rain expected. Count will likely be shortened or canceled. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown (<davidebrownpa...>) Ashland Nature Center information may be found at: www.delnature.org
