Subject: [CT Birds] Sunday Hawk Watch at Lighthouse Point Park
Raptor activity at Lighthouse Point on Sunday was most active between 10 AM and Noon. Winds were North but light, averaging 3 mph most of the day. Overall on the day, we notched 9 species for the Hawk Count, totaling 191 Raptors with Sharp-shinned Hawks and Turkey Vultures being the most prevalent species. There were also 6 Northern Harriers, including a Gray Ghost, and one (late) Osprey at 1:45.

Morning Flight was VERY active early with many large flocks of Blackbirds (over 5,000). Redwing Blackbirds and Tree Swallows made up the majority of birds (3,865 and 1,515) with large numbers of Common Grackles, Robins and Cedar Waxwings as well.

Thanks to all of the 12 people who turned out and helped by adding eyes to the sky. An eBird list with all species and totals was added from the “Lighthouse Point Park” hotspot.
