Yesterday morning on a bird walk for Laguna Canyon Foundation we had a female type Summer Tanager at Laguna Niguel Regional Park. We initially spotted a tanager in the flowering eucalyptus trees west of the pickleball courts at about 9:30 a.m. The bird was silent and we lost sight before we could make an ID. A little after 10 a.m. the bird was calllng from the eucalyptus trees south of the pickleball courts. We were able to find the bird and had good looks to confirm the ID.
Between the tanager sightings there was an oriole chattering near the top of the tall trees north of Sulphur Creek and west of the pedestrian bridge. We were unable to locate the bird from our location and could not identify the species by sound alone.
