Hi folks - a few weeks ago I posted a note about trick or treat Halloween hummingbirds that come to late-season feeders long after the usual Ruby-throats have departed. I was beginning to lose faith in my prophesy due to a lack of reports of western vagrants at VT and NY feeders.
Today, the prophesy was fulfilled (doubled in spades) with the report of a Rochester hummer bander banding a Broad-billed Hummingbird (not your usual western vagrant) in Buffalo, NY. This species inhabits canyons in northern Mexico, and is rarely found in the US.
What a treat!
