During our class this morning, we heard the distinctive double “kip-kip”notes of a Pacific Wren calling in the understory near the upper stone bridge. We could never coax the bird into view, but it continued to call intermittently from the undergrowth, occasionally joined in a vocal duel by a Common Yellowthroat. Oddly absent from this location was Hermit Thrush, normally fairly abundant along this trail, but possibly due to the lack of Toyon berries we saw here. At least we didn’t see or hear any today. Otherwise, the usual expected migrants and resident species.
