Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City - Sunday, October 19th -
A Clay-colored Sparrow, perhaps a lingering individual, was seen and photographed by the s. side of The Meer in the parks northern end on Sunday, with multiple observers. In all of the park and seen as well as photographed in the collective for all of Sunday-only, at least 15 species of migratory warblers of the Americas were found, these including N. Waterthrush, Cape May, Blackpoll, Bay-breasted, Nashville, Black-throated Green and Black-throated Blue Warblers, American Redstart, plus the remainder to total up to fifteen species for the park.
Very high numbers of native sparrows, especially White-throated Sparrows and Dark-eyed Juncos, were in Central Park in a moderate-frenzy of feeding, repositioning, and movement, with a minimum of 9 total sparrow species found in the park on Sunday, the above-noted rarer species included. White-crowned and Lincolns Sparrows have also continued to Sunday. Numbers of both kinglets were well into double-digits, with fair numbers of Golden-crowned Kinglet through the park, and easily triple-digit numbers overall of Ruby-crowned Kinglets for all of the park in the morning hours. More than 80 species of native, wild birds were found in Central Park for Sunday, by a large number of observers out at all daylight hours. American Woodcock was among the 80 or more species in Central Park on Sunday.
Observers and photographers included those who lead for, or walk with, or support the not-for-profit guided bird walks which continue on in Central Park and more generally, around the city with organizations and institutions behind these walks that support sound science, conservation, education, and the diversity in nature as well as for the institutions and their scheduled walks. Also present are many many independent observers and photographers, all of the preceding offering sightings and reports or alerts via non-x apps as well as thru eBird alerts and reports, with the Macaulay Library for media in both visual and auditory form.
Good birding,
