Summer and winter overlapped in my backyard on Oct. 8: my first junco and the last hummingbirds I’ve seen at the feeder. While counting the herd of MODOs (46) at my feeders and above in the trees on Oct. 7, I spotted a mockingbird in the trees. On Oct. 11, a “butter butt” temporarily paused on the fence surrounding my feeders. Heard two Red-breasted Nuthatches conversing in the trees 2 doors down from my backyard on Oct. 12. While in his yard on Oct. 15, Jack Haddan and I tried to catch a glimpse of a very talkative Golden-crowned Kinglet moving around the treetops.
In response to my post about the RBNU at my feeders on Oct. 5, Greg Hess emailed that he had a RBNU as well as 2 Purple Finches at his feeders on Oct. 8. He asked whether this was a bit early . . . and, if so, is anyone aware of why???
