Good morning, all-
Here is the report for the Bald Eagle Big Sit! which will be shared with the world at large via Park Educators Michelle White and Daria Beggs...
The Bald Eagle Big Sit! took place at the Winter Launch of Bald Eagle State Park from 7:00am to 6:15pm on Sunday, October 12th. The day started with Park Educator Michelle W. and Park Volunteer Autumn K. just before dawn. A low, heavy fog hung over the valley, shrouding us in low lighting. Despite this, our group persevered in heavy coats until the sun broke through in earnest. As noon approached, the valley warmed up and Park Educator Dara B. joined the group. As the day waned, new local birders joined our group and wrapped up our watching as the sun dipped below the Appalachian Front. From our vantage point, we had a great view of local Bald Eagles perching in an evergreen tree. Large numbers of American Crows visited throughout the day, with their calls drowning out calls of smaller birds. A major highlight were Yellow-rumped Warblers passing through the Launch area and cheerily visiting the tree at the pavilion.
