Yesterday Michael and I did a quasi-Big Day, covering Bald Knob NWR and several other nearby locations. We saw lots of newly arriving sparrows, a few departing passerines and some continuing shorebirds and ducks. Our "rare" bird of the day was Semipalmated Plover, and the most exciting was a Black-billed/Yellow-billed Cuckoo that we're still not sure of the identification on... and now only to find out the two can hybridize. More drama. Anyway, we had a very lousy showing with only 71 birds total. Such is the life of a birder, right? Until next year!Patty McLean and Michael Linz The Roadrunners
