Subject: Butler County ebird Moraine State Park
I walked around the 5 Points area at Moraine State Park today. It is
always a reliable location for White-throated Sparrows and I counted at
least 30 on Water Tower Road. There was also a small wave of 7
Yellow-rumped Warblers along this Road. Near the end of 5 Points Trail I
found my first Cedar Waxwings. Walking back along the service Road that
parallels the bike trail, there was a large wave of Yellow-rumped Warblers
and a few more White-throated Sparrows and Cedar Waxwings. I took the
path back into the wooded area, and saw some movement in the understory
which turned out to be an Ovenbird! Back near the exit to the road, I saw
some Robins and among them was a first of season Hermit Thrush. Towhees
called all along the walk, along with Flickers and Hairy Woodpeckers.
Ruby-crowned and Golden-crowned Kinglets were also seen. Leaf color is
beginning here, and was beautiful against the blue sky.
