On this 3rd and final night of the HMBC's 2025 Nighthawk Watch, we tallied 34 Common Nighthawks between 6 PM and about 7:40 PM. Compared to only four each of the previous two nights, this evening started off quickly with a group of 8 northbound Nighthawks about 6:10 PM. Additional sightings of 2 to 3 individuals continued, some overhead moving northwest, highlighted by a group of 13, which emerged over the pines to the east, traveling roughly west well behind the Discovery Center. Other sightings of were a flyover Peregrine falcon, for the 3rd night in a row, and the overhead aerial refueling by two huge military planes! Many thanks to the 20 sharp-eyed Nighthawk enthusiasts and to the Albany Pine Bush Commission for hosting us again this year. Although the formal Nighthawk Watch is concluded for the year , Nighthawks continue to migrate, and we encourage people to continue to observe them, and report your sightings on ebird and here on Hmbirds.
