I visited Dunham Reservoir this morning. I wanted to see how low the water levels had fallen with a hope that some migrating Shorebirds may have dropped in to rest and feed.
Water levels are down 5-7 feet and 20-30 feet of sloped rocky shore runs down to the waterline around most of the reservoir. The best exposed flats are at the Johnson Road causeway/ bridge. I scoped the shoreline from both the western boat launch and eastern culvert ( under Johnson Road) but no shorebirds were observed.
A couple GBHE, a pair of Pheobe, a BEKI, and a BWHA were hanging near the bridge and lots usually suspects were in the trees and brush but nothing special.
As water levels continue dropping it’s worth keeping an eye on it.
