Spent a terrific morning poking around my favorite nooks andcrannies at the upper end of Hoover Reservoir today. The habitat is phenomenaland the shorebirding is awesome. I couldn’t ask for better conditions, mild temperatures,and clear skies. Several rare to uncommon species highlighted the speciespresent including the Little Blue Heron (it put on a show today) and MarbledGodwits.
Shorebirds included:
Black-bellied Plover
American Golden Plover
Semipalmated Plover
Killdeer
Greater Yellowlegs
Lesser Yellowlegs
Solitary Sandpiper
Spotted Sandpiper
Marbled Godwit
Semipalmated Sandpiper
Least Sandpiper
Pectoral Sandpiper
Stilt Sandpiper
Short-billed Dowitcher
Some additional species of interest:
Little Blue Heron
Caspian Tern
Common Tern
Forster’s Tern
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Prothonotary Warbler (holdout from my nest boxes or aCanadian resident heading south?)
