Subject: [sd-birds] Range expansions
The Mississippi kites in Sioux falls remind me of my time in Topeka Kansas.
Twenty years ago kites were unheard of there. Now they nest all over the
city. The same is true of red shouldered hawks. Used to be none and now
they are quite common in the area.

Also yellow crowned night herons were rare but now nest in residential
areas.

Hopefully the same happens in eastern South Dakota with all becoming more
abundant.

Ibises seen to also be expanding their range in South Dakota. It's
important for everyone to report what they are seeing because you never
know what will appear.
