The 2025 Common Nighthawk migration season is now underway. I counted none yesterday so today is the start of the season, a very typical date for this species. All but 2 birds were on a direct route southbound into light SE winds. Look for a higher count tomorrow.
Systematic counts will be run every evening for the next 3 weeks. Over the last 2 years at Franklin Falls we have counted well over 20.000 nighthawks. Come see the spectacle!
