Whoops! Thought I had a 8/15 deadline. I hope the two nesting records (PEFA, WEVI) I submitted aren’t too late!
Thanks, Wendy!

Subject: [External] [ia-bird] Bird sightings for Summer field reports.
Hi all!
Please remember to finish up your June & July bird reports by August 14th in order for them to be included in the Iowa Bird Life Summer field reports. Sightings can be submitted to either eBird or Iowabirds.org.
The Iowa Ornithologists Union would like to encourage you to report rare, uncommon and declining species, early or late migrants and high species counts. Resources about early & late migrant dates and review list bird species can be found under the “Iowa Birds” tab on the IOU website. Any sightings of review list bird species from this summer season should be submitted to the Iowa Records Committee for review.
I would like to encourage those of you who use eBird to include the breeding codes especially when you see fledglings or young birds. If you use the app you can click on the different codes to figure out which one you want. I have included pictures to illustrate. Please put the number of young in the comments and if you could take one extra step and go to the website and add the number of young and adults to the chart that would really be useful to researchers.
If you see a rare or uncommon bird and can’t get a photograph, please include a detailed description of what it looks like so it can be accepted into the records. The comment “Merlin ID” will not be accepted without more evidence or description. Merlin is a tool to offer suggestions and shouldn’t be used as the only method for confirmation. EBird has helpful info on how to add recordings and photographs. If you need more help please let me know.
Thank you for participating in citizen science and including lots of comments and descriptions in your reports to make my job easier. Bird on!
