Subject: [CT Birds] Re: Early migrants
Birds today after yesterday's storms:  in a small lilac bush outside my computer window, all at the same time (truly!) - a female American redstart in perfect plumage, presumably young; yellow-throated vireo (here all summer); house wren (gone since July 31), Carolina wren (in molt) and an immature chipping sparrow.  I was woken at 4 am today by a barred owl calling incessantly.  And yesterday evening a Baltimore Oriole came through, as did a Louisiana waterthrush (normally nests here along my stream but absent this summer).
A worm-eating warbler was also here on August 7, feeding in a rhododendron bush, also migrating. Also reporting the departure of red-winged blackbirds and cowbirds which frequented my feeders until the end of July.  One male common grackle still visits.

Similar to Paul’s sighting, this morning at Bauer Farm in Madison I found an American Redstart, which was a surprise for this location in mid August.

More surprising was that a Canada Warbler was apparently traveling with the Redstart - this is probably 2 to 3 weeks early for this southern New Haven county location.  I got some photos of the Canada Warbler and attached them to my checklist:  https://ebird.org/checklist/S267189565
