Subject: [ia-bird] question about Mississippi Kites
So, I think my female was murdered on the nest in 2023 after raising a successful baby in 2022. Since then I have only seen the male. Today, while I was mowing outside. I saw a pair of Kites circling and they appeared to like each other and kind of doing some flying close to each other, the away and back and forth. Is it possible for the youngster from 2022 to return to same area? Then I saw a smaller hawk harassing them, I have a Sharp-shin hawk that hangs around Sheridan Park. I do believe the larger hawk was the Kite based upon the view I saw of them with my not great binoculars. They were quite high. I am basing what I saw by the fly by view of shape of Kite and lite color underneath with darker edging.
I will keep watching and try and get some photos but I know they aren’t particularly territorial so I have never seen a lot of chasing except Crows bothering him.

Any thoughts? thank you!
