Semipalmated Sandpiper (Calidris pusilla) (2)
- Reported Aug 05, 2025 09:00 by Roger Hammer
- Turri Road Tidal Ponds, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.8218378&<ll...>,-120.8218378 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S265315001 - Media: 3 Photos
- Comments: "One in the W pond fairly close and one in the E pond far away. Slightly larger than a least sandpiper. Pale greyish peep with scalloped non-rufous scaling on back, a white underside, and a black, shorter, blunt-tipped bill, and had a noticeable white long eyebrow. Its legs were black, distinguishing it from a LESA. It was distinct from the smaller dark legged WESAs in the area."
Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus) (1)
- Reported Aug 05, 2025 12:05 by Roger Hammer
- Hwy 46 Post Mile 5.0 pond (no internal access), San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.9662118&<ll...>,-120.9662118 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S265320555 - Media: 3 Photos
- Comments: "Enroute home on 46, Stopped 6-7 times when vultures were observed overhead. Always TUVUs. This time near Jack Ck I stopped again as I saw birds landed on carrion about 200+ yards away. Closest to me I spotted one noticeably smaller all black bird (others grouped to the right show some brown tinges) which remained off to the side, had a slightly smaller gray head (I realize some immature TUVUs also have less color on the head). My pics don't clinch an ID as the birds stayed put for the 12 minutes I watched so I did not observe bird in flight to see "white fingers" or short, square tail or horizontal wing position in the air. The BLVU from Villa which others have reported as smaller than adjacent TUVUs had to eventually set down somewhere nearby today. Perhaps it was here!?"
