Subject: [CT Birds] Coastal Center
7/6 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center. 9:15-10:20am.. mid-tide,
overcast, breezy 77F. A brief visit this morning.
camp is still in session, so grounds are busy with campers and visitors.
On the marsh: 5 Yellow crowned night herons ( 1 adult, 4 juveniles)-then
they flew over to the lagoon; 4 osprey-(3 on nest and one flew in with a
fish) 1 Clapper rail, 2 Canada Geese, about 17 Purple martins hawking
insects (and other Purple martins in the trees).
A short walk along the LIS shoreline- 2 Song sparrows, about 12 Ruddy
turnstones foraging on shoreline, 2 Sanderlings, many Semipalmated
sandpipers (and more kept flying in), 4 Piping plovers, 22 Housefinches
foraging in the grasses on the beach, 5 Least Terns diving for fish.
