Subject: [northbaybirds] Early Migrants Point Reyes 8/04/25
Hi All,
Been awhile since I'be posted here but thought I'd share that I had a few eastern vagrants at Point Reyes yesterday 8/04/25. At Abbotts Lagoon there was a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH in the large willow patch by the boardwalk 2/3s of the way down the trail. It was difficult to view but calling fairly constantly. Shorebird numbers were still quite low at the lagoon despite good habitat being available. At Drake's Beach there was a BLACKPOLL WARBLER in the willows by the powerline cut, which now seems to be constantly the most productive spot at Drake's since the revamp of the parking lot during covid. These vagrants seemingly arrived during heavy NW winds, there were up to 50mph gusts at the lighthouse yesterday, and the conditions were similar in the days before. The first western birds are starting to move, with coastal YELLOW WARBLER, WARBLING VIREO, BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, and many ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS away from their breeding grounds the past few days.
