I had the same experience on the Salmon River in Machimoodus SP this morning, 10 purple martins. I walk my dogs here regularly and usually see them one or two days a year in late summer.
Yesterday I had 15 tree swallows feeding above my yard for 15 minutes, all summer I’ve occasionally seen 1 or 2, so the swallows are starting to congregate.
