Subject: White-eyed vireo
This email originated from outside of K-State.
Birding in the Manhattan area hasn't turned up beyond the expected summer residents, except for a White-eyed Vireo in Fairmont Park, which is on the east side of the Kansas River in Pottowattomie County. The bird is at the southwest corner of the park and can be found by walking atop the levee until it ends and one is looking at the Highway 177 bridge that takes one over the Kansas River into Manhattan. I first heard the bird, which is at the western edge of its range according to Sibley, a couple weeks ago. Today it was calling and was very visible as I sat on a bench there. I suspect, given its behavior, that it has a nest in the area. Gary Haden, Manhattan
