Such a lovely late spring morning to gather for today's Thursday Birding Meetup at Roy Park Preserve South! Seventeen of us appreciated some great morning sun illuminating a male indigo bunting, a common yellowthroat, eastern towhee and red-eyed vireo. We were delighted to see a singing alder flycatcher right out in the open very near to us! Tis the nesting season and we observed the female indigo bunting and song sparrow carrying nesting material. Ever faithful e-birder, Diane Morton, recorded 38 species for our morning together including several warblers heard only (love that black-throated green amidst the hemlocks!). A little botany treat greeted us at the lean-to--two gorgeous pink lady slippers! Seven of us enjoyed coffee and breakfast at College Town Bagels East Hill afterward as we shared birding stories and plotted future birding adventures. YOU are so welcome to join us for these casual leaderless Thursday morning birding outings whether you are a long-time birder or a newbie. Get some great birding in before work or your other activities, or stay a while for coffee/breakfast if your schedule is flexible. We'll select our destinations for the following Thursday at our breakfast gathering, and publicize it here as well as on the Cayuga Bird Club calendar and listserv (and Instagram!).
