Locally some good pushes of migrants on both Weds and today. Leading the pack both days were the large numbers of Wilson's Warblers, followed by good numbers of Western Tanagers, Swainson's Thrushes, Warbling Vireos, Yellow Warblers, and Black-headed Grosbeaks. Also very interesting has been the appearance of FOUR Willow Flycatchers between 6 May and today (9 May). First Balboa Park, then Robb Field, and today in Coronado (2). This is still early for there to be migrant-type Willows, with the usual arrival of the first such individual around 10-12 May. The rare, local breeding population (ssp. extimus) does arrive now at the nesting sites, but the birds the past few days are all assumed to be through-migrants at migrant, not breeding, sites. These early Willows are an interesting contradiction to the otherwise seemingly late overall landbird migration this season. Still at least one "Gambel's" White-crowned Sparrow present today.
