Subject: [CT Birds] Coastal Center
5/7 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 9:45am-1PM. high tide-
receding, sunny, 65F.
Several class visits today. Plus in our guest sign-in booklet- visitors
from the Netherlands, France and other out of state locations. I took a
walk with one of our guests on the LIS side.
Our ospreys are incubating eggs. Female was on nest most of the morning,
male on his perch, then he flew off to chase away 2 other ospreys in the
area. Several Purple Martins flying around the marsh.
On the marsh: 2 Yellow crowned night herons, about 300 Brant on the
marsh , in the lagoon and on Long Island sound side, 5 Mute swans, 9 Canada
Geese, 4 DC Cormorants.
On the Long Island sound: many Least terns and Common terns flying over and
calling, 5 Least Sandpipers in lagoon area, 12Piping Plovers, 10 American
Oystercatchers, 7 Greater Yellowlegs, 2 Common Loons.
On the grounds & feeders: 3 Song sparrows, American robins, 1 Mockingbird,
many Tree swallows (1 in nest box) with about 4 Barn swallows in the
flock, 4 House finches (female with right eye sealed still seen), Common
Grackles, Red winged blackbirds, Ring billed & Herring gulls, 3 Cardinals.
One rabbit with ticks in its ear.
