It was a beautiful morning of birding today at Ed Levin County Park, Spring Valley Area. We set out with a group of intrepid birders with Liz Frith, John Tsortos, and Karen Rush coleading. Spring was in the air in Spring Valley as various birds carried food back to their nests. Western Bluebirds, Tree Swallows, and European Starlings were all seen carrying meals back to their nest cavities and bird boxes. The morning sky was full of raptors enjoyed the beautiful weather, including at least 3 Red-shouldered Hawks, 4 Red-tailed Hawks, 2 White-tailed Kites, a Golden Eagle, and a Cooper's Hawk.
We searched the eucalyptus trees and found a migrating male Rufous Hummingbird and both Bullock's and Hooded Orioles. The flock of 8 Lawrence's Goldfinches was also flying around the park. We got good looks at them both near the entrance of the park as well as up on the Spring Valley Trail. Overall, the morning was very birdy with 56 species on our checklist ( https://ebird.org/checklist/S233136667 ).
