Subject: [NHBirds] 5/4/25 Great Migrant Traffic continuing in yard - Newton, NH
Hi All,

I moved to Newton late last summer, so this is my first spring migration in
NH. I can't believe how much denser overall numbers are here than Boston
metrowest. I knew there'd be more, but the breadth and depth has been
shocking. Last autumn we had a yellow-billed cuckoo, this spring started
off with a woodcock, and migrants are streaming through now with new stuff
daily. The highlight so far was a signing Louisiana Waterthrush a few days
ago, and we've had BTG, Parula all over the place, B&W Warblers, Maggies,
Towhee, a resident ovenbird apparently, purple finches, BH Vireos, and
today we had a singing Cape May!

I'm loving living back in the woods...I lived in Newton (MA) for 5 years
and had a 74 species yard list, and 84 from my childhood yard list
(although I didn't keep as good track back then) in the woods of Western
Massachusetts. I'm at 73 so far here, in about 8 months and without a full
spring migration yet.

That's all for now,

Matt s.
