4/30 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center, 10am-1PM. sunny, low tide-rising, 65-70F. Very busy at the center again with class visits and several out of town visitors enjoying the views & birds. Our Purple Martin gourds are busy, with many flying around and several poking their heads out of the gourds. Our Ospreys are incubating their eggs, with the male & female taking turns. Lots of calling when a third osprey showed up circling overhead. On the marsh: Greater & lesser yellowlegs, 2 Mute swans, about 200 Brant as the tide was rising- many small flocks flying in and 2 American Black ducks. On the grounds & feeders: 4 Northern Cardinals- female carrying nesting material, 7 Tree swallows, 5 White throated sparrows, numerous House sparrows, 3 Song sparrows, Red winged Blackbirds, Common Grackles, about 8 Robins, 2 Northern Mockingbirds and 6 House finches. One of the female House finches was wing flapping at 2 males, but they ignored her- her right eye was sealed shut (possibly conjunctivitis). Bev Propen, Orange
